Useful bench on the east side of the hut, nice to sit and take a break. The hut was unlocked when I passed by in June 2026, so you could in theory shelter from a passing squall (but if the weather is that bad why are you on the hills and not in the pub!)

Cracking location, a nice looking hostel in a top spot. Nice to see them flying the flag of St. George too, and that's a Welshman saying that. This place would make a fortune too if it sold coffee and cake in this location!

Austrian themed mountain hut restaurant/cafe/bar. Complete with two cable cars you can sit in. Sadly only Austrian themed from the outside, but otherwise a great place to stop for a bite to eat, or even for a quick tea and scone.

A lonely and isolated hut stands in this awesome location here on Stean Moor. This is a shooting lodge. You're likely not shooting grouse, so you can sit somewhere next to it and enjoy the tremendous view of Acoras Scar (to the west). Remote, surrounded by peace and quiet and having the dramatic views in front of you. Life just does not get better.

An unusual stone hut (with only 3 walls) and a heather roof. This is, as the name of it suggests, used for shooting (so not yourself, in all likelihood), but inside of it seats and tables can be used to rest and hide from the weather elements, if needed.

Hag Dyke, on the slopes of Great Whernside in a stunning location, is a hostel administered by Ben Rhydding Scout and Guide Group in Ben Rhydding. The hostel was donated to the group in 1947. The building is quite old. It was originally a farmhouse and occupied at least as far back as 1730. The kitchen area in the house is the oldest. At 1,525 feet, the house is believed to be in the highest position of all the houses in what used to be West Riding.

About as good as a Hostel can get. Part hostel, part post office, part library. Food is brilliant. Independently run by a lovely family. Go and stay.
