The foundation and steps of the schoolhouse that was built in 1878. Would have been neat to see when it existed. There is a nice picture of it and description near the site.

A few buildings remain of Forestville and the Minnesota Historical Society runs a small museum/store with reenactments during the summer. I was hoping there were going to be more buildings, and I wasn't there while the buildings were open.

Didn't realize this trail was going to not have a bridge here, figured I'd create a highlight so people know. It worked great to cross the ice with my micro spikes, but during the summer it could be a pretty wet crossing.

A great place to stop in and get a trail map, get your parking pass, etc. I had a great experience talking to the ranger about where would be great to hike here with a few hours. Would gladly visit with them again.

A nice place to park and get on the trail. It was very busy today for late September, but since it was also in the upper 70's and sunny, no big surprise. Looks like they are restoring the depot. I thought when I was here 6 years ago the depot was open. I like the small collection of vintage buildings, and there are a few bar and grills near the parking lot for lunch/dinner.

If you're interested in a fly fishing hike in the Driftless Region of Minnesota you can't do better than this. Multiple springs feed this stream all along its length before it flows into the Root River. The stream is easily accessible in this pasture section.
