One of the most picturesque, small waterfalls on the northern side of the lake. Just before the bridge over the stream, on the right, is the MOR Velo rest stop.

Many consider it the best place in the Ciężkowice area. Although in summer it is a small stream of water, it turns out that in winter it freezes and turns into a large icefall! The huge rocks surrounding it are also impressive - maybe that is why there were legends about witches (hence the name of this waterfall/icefall) who held a sabbath here (those were the days, eh?)

The Będkowska Valley is one of the longest (7-8 km) and most attractive valleys in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, located between Będkowice and Łączki Kobylańskie. Carved out of Jurassic limestone, it offers numerous rocks, caves and karst formations - ideal for climbers, speleologists and tourists. There are over 80 climbing rocks (including the famous Sokolica), several dozen caves and the natural Szum waterfall. The Brandysówka agritourism farm with a camping site operates in the valley, and the available network of trails allows you to easily combine sightseeing with neighboring valleys. For MTB cyclists, I recommend the off-road route, in places with a stony or steep character - a bike with good shock absorption will work best.

The highest waterfall in the Tatras; the water here falls from 70 meters! The noise is quite loud, especially if you are here after a lot of rain!

This waterfall is made up of three other cascades, flowing from the Five Lakes. The name "Wodogrzmoty" (although sometimes these waterfalls are simply called Mickiewicz Waterfalls) comes from the fact that the water makes a terrible roar as it falls (and it's cool).

Several waterfalls in Lesser Poland Voivodeship are ideal for families. The Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza Waterfalls are easily accessible along the popular trail to Morskie Oko, making them a convenient stop for all ages. Siklawica Waterfall in Strążyska Valley also offers an easy hike suitable for families, with views of Giewont mountain. Other family-friendly options include Bystra Stream and Waterfall Below Nosal, Spadowiec Waterfall, and the Water Cascades.
The region's geology, particularly the Jurassic limestone and sandstone, contributes to unique waterfall formations. For instance, Szum Waterfall in the Będkowska Valley is the largest in the Krakow-Częstochowa Upland, formed on a four-meter-high limestone berm. The Bolechowicka Valley Waterfall, just 15 kilometers from Krakow, is a two-stage limestone waterfall, a rare sight in the Jura region. Siklawica Waterfall features an 'evorsion cauldron' carved into the rock by its powerful flow.
Early summer or after heavy rainfall are generally considered the best times to experience the waterfalls at their fullest flow. This is when the water volume is highest, making cascades like Wielka Siklawa and Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza particularly impressive. During these periods, the 'water thunder' of Mickiewicz Waterfalls is most pronounced.
Yes, the Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza Waterfalls are specifically named 'Wodogrzmoty' (meaning 'water thunder') due to the powerful roar of the falling water, especially after heavy rainfall. Similarly, the highest waterfall, Wielka Siklawa Waterfall, creates a significant noise, particularly after substantial rain.
Many waterfall trails in Lesser Poland Voivodeship are accessible and range from easy to intermediate difficulty. For example, the path to Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza Waterfalls is a comfortable tar track with a low gradient. The hike through Strążyska Valley to Siklawica Waterfall is also described as easy. However, some areas, especially in the Tatra Mountains, can involve more challenging terrain, such as the upper part of the trail to the Waterfall in Tatra National Park, which may require crawlers in winter.
Yes, some waterfalls offer opportunities to cool off. Zaskalnik Waterfall, located on the Sopotnicki Stream, is known for its crystal-clear water, providing a refreshing spot to cool feet on hot days. The Waterfall in Tatra National Park also offers a nice resting place on the torrent with fresh water.
Yes, the Bolechowicka Valley Waterfall is conveniently located just 15 kilometers from Krakow in the Bolechowicki Gorge. This two-stage limestone waterfall offers a unique and secluded spot within the attractive Bolechowicka Valley, making it an ideal escape from the city.
The region around the waterfalls offers diverse outdoor activities. You can explore road cycling routes like the Velo Czorsztyn trail or scenic loops around Lake Czorsztyńskie. For running enthusiasts, there are trails in areas like Las Wolski or the Ojcowski Park Narodowy. Many areas also feature mountain biking opportunities, especially in valleys carved from Jurassic limestone. You can find more details on these activities in the Road Cycling Routes in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Running Trails in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, and Cycling in Lesser Poland Voivodeship guides.
Wielka Siklawa Waterfall holds the title of the highest and largest waterfall in Poland. It plunges approximately 70 meters from the Stawiarska Wall, separating the Roztoka Valley and the Valley of Five Polish Ponds. Its impressive height and volume make it a breathtaking spectacle.
Many waterfalls are situated within stunning natural landscapes. Near Wielka Siklawa Waterfall, you can admire the surrounding Valley of Five Polish Ponds, known for its mountain scenery and glacial formations. The hike to Siklawica Waterfall offers views of the majestic Giewont mountain. The Będkowska Valley, home to Szum Waterfall, is carved out of Jurassic limestone and features numerous rocks, caves, and karst formations.
While not as widely known as the major Tatra falls, the Great Waterfall (Wodospad Wielki) in Obidza, Łącko municipality, offers natural beauty and a serene setting. The Bolechowicka Valley Waterfall near Krakow also provides a unique and secluded experience within an attractive valley, being uncommon for the Jura region.
The name 'Wodogrzmoty' translates to 'water thunder,' referring to the powerful roar produced by the falling water, especially after heavy rainfall. The waterfalls were named in honor of the poet Adam Mickiewicz in 1891, even though he never visited the Tatras himself. They are a series of three larger and several smaller cascades on the Roztoka stream.
