Thielenburger Lake

Highlight • Lake

The Thielenburger See is an approx. 11 ha large quarry pond in my hometown Dannenberg. The lake is very central and close to the Dannenberg city center (can be reached from there in a few minutes on foot). A circular path (relatively hard sand path) for walkers and cyclists runs around Lake Thielenburger See. When the weather is good, the path is easy to walk and drive; when it rains, larger areas of the path are often flooded with water and some areas of the path are very muddy.
The Thielenburger See is very beautiful and always a great photo opportunity, especially during sunrise and sunset.
On the eastern side of the lake there is a children's playground and the Dannenberger Toboggan Hill, the latter arose from part of the excavation that was dredged there in the 80s (when the Thielenburg lake was created). There used to be two small bracks there, which were then extended to the Thielenburger See. The lake got its name from the Thielenburger Weg, which at that time ran between the two Bracks (the route then led from the city center to the Dannenberger campsite).
In the past, the lake was also very popular for ice skating in the winter months, but this was no longer possible in the warm winters of recent years.

From the Elbe Cycle Path, which runs here on the Elbe dike, you have a wonderful view of the floodplain landscape between the Elbe and the Elbe dike (on the north/northeast side of the cycle path). The landscape here consists mainly of meadows here some brackish, there are also some wonderful giant trees (oaks). Wild animals and many larger bird species can often be observed here, e.g. white-tailed eagles, kestrels, cranes, gray and great egrets, red kites, common buzzards, deer, beavers, coypu, hares, etc. In the summer months, many different types of insects also feel at home here.

Addendum from 06/28/2022
Unfortunately, this area, the Elberadweg between Landsatz and Jasebeck, is currently (summer 2022) closed because dry branches could fall from oak trees: elberadweg.de/news-service/aktuelle-information-und-news/news /blocking-of-the-elbe-cycle-path-between-jasebeck-and-landsatz/

Bathing area with barbecue area, a bit of sandy beach, a few benches and a kind of "bus hut" (although it is not a bus stop, the hut faces the lake). The site is popular in summer and is often used for swimming and camping.
The Gümser See is a rather long, but not very wide lake (it almost looks like a river).
Two villages border the Gümser See, the village of Gümse on the southern side of the lake (the bathing area is also located here) and the village of Seedorf on the northern side of the lake.

Qualmwasser Depression Barnitz

Highlight • Natural Monument

Directly behind the dyke near Barnitz, a long-drawn-out strong-water sink invites moor frog, pond newt and garlic toad to a honeymoon. Depending on the level of the Elbe, this depression may be full for a long time or dry in April. For tadpoles and molt larvae is therefore urgent. If the water dries out before the metamorphosis to rural life is over, they have little chance of survival.

Wooden Dock at Thielenburger See

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the jetty you have a great view of Lake Thielenburg and the "Dannenberger Skyline", which is reflected in the lake. A small wooden bench is attached to the railing of the footbridge.

Since I don't live far from Lake Thielenburg, I am often here. The boardwalk is one of my favorite places on Lake Thielenburg. I like to use the jetty as a photo motif or as a location for taking photos.

Very relaxed walk around the lake. Paved ground that is easy to drive on. The main thing is that the tour is worth it because of the beautiful view of the lake. Recommended!

The Michelshof is an international training center for ecological agriculture including the inclusion of people who are disadvantaged elsewhere. Old breeds of domestic animals can be experienced up close. Two colorful parks can also be "walked over", which you should do.
