The Jewish cemetery in Żuromin is located northwest of the city center, on today's Mazurska and Stefana Żeromskiego streets. The exact date of the establishment of this necropolis remains undetermined, it was probably established in the 1840s, shortly after the local religious community was organized. Previously, the Jews of Żuromin buried their dead in the cemetery in Kuczbork. The Jewish cemetery in Żuromin was certainly already operating in 1859, as documents concerning the fencing of the existing necropolis have survived from that time. In the spring of 2009, thanks to the cooperation of Jews originating from Żuromin and the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage, work began on the restoration of the cemetery. The necropolis was fenced and tidied up. The ceremonial completion of the work took place in July of that year. It was attended by Jews originating from Żuromin, representatives of the Jewish Community in Warsaw and the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage, representatives of local authorities and clergy, and residents of the town. In April 2011, two plaques with approximately 300 surnames of Jewish families living in Żuromin until World War II were ceremonially unveiled on the wall at the entrance to the cemetery. The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage and the cooperating Jewish compatriots' association in the United States were driven by the desire to perpetuate the memory of those for whom no tombstone has survived in the cemetery. Żuromin Jews - victims of the Holocaust - were also honored. The official unveiling of the plaques was attended by descendants of Żuromin Jews who came from America for the occasion. https://sztetl.org.pl/pl/miejscowosci/z/849-zuromin/114-cmentarze/41234-cmentarz-zydowski-w-zurominie-ul-zeromskiego

Old, neglected Jewish cemetery. A few decades ago, it was a playground for kids from the surrounding estates. About a decade ago it was fenced, although nothing else was done there.
