Text from the information board: Reflector for Sentinel-1 data from space. The State Office for Surveying and Geo-Information of Rhineland-Palatinate has installed this latest generation corner reflector. It is used for radar interferometry. With this measurement method, current information about movements on the Earth's surface can be obtained largely automatically. A corner reflector has the function of an artificial retroreflector. It receives, among other things, the radar signals emitted by the Sentinel-1 satellites (part of the European Copernicus program) orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 700 km and reflects them back exactly to the satellites. This allows any elevation changes of objects on the Earth's surface to be determined with high accuracy in cycles of six / twelve days.
