December 12, 2025, Puente de Hierro de Zamora

It spans the Duero River in Zamora (Castilla y León), connecting Avenida de Portugal (Pinilla neighborhood) with Calle de Salamanca in the city. The project began in 1882, with construction starting in 1892, under the direction of engineer Prudencio Guadalajara, to alleviate the overloading of the old Stone Bridge. Inaugurated in 1900, it represented a significant improvement in handling the growing traffic in the city. It was designed in steel, using a metal lattice structure of the St. Andrew's Cross type, typical of the late 19th century.

A beautiful square. It gets really busy from 8 p.m. onwards, when the Spanish nightlife begins.

The Plaza Mayor of Zamora is a rectangular space. This square, typically Castilian, has a square shape and is surrounded by low-rise buildings with arcades. Its location in the historic center and its pedestrian nature make it a prominent place in the city

Here you will find a set of mills that use the water of the Duero River to grind locally grown cereals. They were built during medieval times.

Great walk through nature in Zamora, passing by the Duero River, you can see how the river flow changes with the seasons. Spectacular views of the architecture and engineering built around the river, bridges and water mills.

A short distance from Zamora, downstream are the Aceñas de Gijón. Old water mills that divert the waters of the Duero River towards a series of ditches and stone dams to grind flour.
