Entrance to Spøttrup Castle

Highlight • Castle

The medieval castle Spøttrup.
Unique - one of a kind - beautiful - magnificent are just some of the words that have been used to describe the medieval castle Spøttrup since it was restored and converted into a museum in 1941. Today, Spøttrup Castle is the best-preserved medieval castle in Denmark.
It is a wonder that the castle has survived the ages.
Indeed, the castle's various owners have treated it with varying degrees of understanding of its uniqueness.
The castle provides an impression of how building was done in the Middle Ages for defensive purposes. Building a strong castle was the most important thing -
whether the living quarters were comfortable was a secondary consideration.
Spøttrup Castle shows what life was like in a castle in the Middle Ages.
There are still holes for cannons preserved, which helped to defend the castle, and the famous 9 medieval toilet shafts on the castle walls bear witness to everyday life 500 years ago.
Right next to the castle lies the renatured lake Spøttrup Sø, which offers a habitat for many animals and birds. A system of paths leads around the lake. In the bird watching tower, there is an exhibition about the local birds and animals. Behind the castle, there is a beautiful park that, with its
herb and spice garden, is always worth a visit.
Every year, the Spøttrup Borg museum organizes numerous activities,
from music and exhibitions to theatre and market days.

Sallingsund Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Great route over the bridge with fantastic views of the sound. The bridge is easily accessible by bike. The cars rush past you loudly, but that doesn't really matter because you are rewarded by the great views.

Sallingsundbroen is a bridge that opened in 1978 and crosses Sallingsund in the Limfjord. The Primærrute 26 trunk road runs over it and connects the Danish island of Mors with the Salling peninsula in northern Jutland. The two-lane road bridge is crossed by more than 10,000 vehicles daily (as of 2009).
The 1717 meter long girder bridge, which is supported by two abutments and 18 reinforced concrete pillars, consists of 17 openings of 93 m and two of 51 m.
A passage height of 26 m is available for shipping traffic. After Vilsundbro, in the west of Mors, opened in 1939, expectations for a bridge over Sallingsund rose. However, the plans had to be stopped due to the German occupation of Denmark and did not lead to a final decision until 1966. The bridge, which was finally built between 1973 and 1978, was completed around 40 years later than expected. The building replaced the ferry connection that had existed between Pinen on Salling and Plagen on Mors since the Middle Ages (1873 to 1924 between Glyngøre and Nykøbing Mors).
The opening ceremony on May 30, 1978, at which Queen Margrethe II of Denmark was present, was overshadowed by a bomb threat, so that the bridge had to be closed during the ceremony. The construction of Sallingsundbro led to an increase in the number of commercial settlements on Mors, and Sallingsundbroen is used as the motif on the 50 kroner banknotes. The banknote drawn by artist Karin Birgitte Lund is part of a series published from 2009 to 2011, which among other things has the theme of Danish bridges.

Glyngøre Marina

Highlight • Rest Area

Picturesque little marina in Glyngøre with beautiful views of the Limfjord. Here at the harbor there is also the tourist information office at Limfjordens Hus.

The port of Glyngøre is popularly known as "Little Skagen". Whatever the weather, the port remains completely calm. The area around the harbor is very beautiful with the community house "Æ Kassehus", the small lighthouse on the tip of the headland and the old ferry port.

The Limfjordens Hus restaurant opened in 2011 and was built right on the shore with a view of the Sallingsund Bridge. The Glyngøre Kulturstation museum in the old train station has a permanent exhibition on fishing in the Limfjord in the 20th century. The former railway line from Glyngøre to Skive is now a bicycle and walking path.

Kås Beach Gate

Highlight • Rest Area

Very well done with the gate and the wildlife barrier with solar and wind turbines - really great
The regular path ends here on the beach. I walked the path along the cliff here. There are no prohibition signs etc. at the gate here - I then walked back this way later and to shorten it, I then went cross-country back to the cliff
However, there is a small fence on the cliff (just a wire and not a real obstacle) - more for the animals - and also prohibition signs. Now I know too - unfortunately I hadn't seen/noticed it on the way there, but you should definitely take it into account. An impressive, very beautiful and lonely tour through nature.
I didn't meet a single soul on my hike here.

This location is at the base of the cliff. There's a narrow strip of trail you can walk along. Be aware of the weather and keep in mind that pieces can break off and fall. The rock formation looks spectacular and it's worth walking the whole way.

Great view of the moated castle Spottrop with its ramparts. A tour there with a visit to the castle is definitely worthwhile, which I have documented in a separate tour.

When strong winds from the west persist for several days, the water level in the Limfjord is often so high that the path on the Klint is not or only partially accessible. Nevertheless, this tour is worthwhile.
