Puy Peyre-Arse

Highlight • Summit

A pleasant foray up Mary and Arse. Puy de Mary (1,783m) is the Pen Y Fan of the Auvergne and incredibly popular. It just has a concrete path up instead of stone...yes concrete. However once over the top you drop down and have a very airy undulating ridge with some simple scrambling to ascend craggy Puy de Arse (1,806m). Coming back is via a lower route.
The starting point at Pas de Peyrol is also a regular inclusion on the Tour de France being at 1,589m (loads of parking but very popular. I went early).
All in all this was a stunning outing and only 10k with 700m’s worth of ascent. One of the best short hikes ever.

Hangman's Rock

Highlight • Viewpoint

If sometimes the name of a place comes from a legend or from the imagination of men, this is not the case here since in the Middle Ages the rock was indeed a place of execution.
Today, the place is an ideal place to enjoy the view.

Puy de Niermont

Highlight • Summit

With its 1,620 meters above sea level, the Puy de Niermont is the roof of the Limont plateau.

From its summit, a scenic view opens up to those who climb it. To the south, you can observe the Puy Mary and to the north, the Puy de Sancy.

In good weather, its sides are very popular with paragliders in the region.

To be completely honest, I personally lack the imagination needed to picture the Roman goddess Venus – born of foam, who, according to ancient myths, emerges from the sea – in this beautiful mountain landscape (see, for example, the famous painting by Botticelli =>> https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Sandro_Botticelli_-_La_nascita_di_Venere_-_Google_Art_Project_-_edited.jpg ). The mountain is magnificent, but not to be underestimated. There's a lot of scree, and it gets really steep at the top. There's no fixed path anymore. Everyone finds their own route. Technically, it won't be difficult. But it requires absolute surefootedness and a head for heights.
