The Flatwoods Park Trail Loop offers a delightful escape into classic 'Old Florida' scenery, winding through tranquil pine flatwoods, shaded oak hammocks, and open stretches of prairie. This car-free paved route is notably flat, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed ride where you can spot local wildlife like armadillos and turtles, especially around the scenic Trout Creek Boardwalk and Bridge.
This easy 11.2-mile (18.1 km) road cycling loop, with only 41 feet (12 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes about 58 minutes to complete. The trail is well-equipped with water stations and sheltered rest stops every two miles, and trailheads provide essential amenities like restrooms and bike tune-up tools. For a smooth experience, cyclists are generally asked to follow the loop in a counterclockwise direction.
Part of the larger Wilderness Park system, the Flatwoods Park Trail Loop is a popular destination for its safe, traffic-free environment, making it an excellent choice for families or those new to road cycling. While the main loop is strictly paved, the park also offers connections to unpaved trails for riders on hybrid or mountain bikes looking for more diverse terrain.
