The path to the waterfall is great, but also strenuous. There is a section with a decent incline in between. You are rewarded with a great waterfall and pool that is great for swimming in. The water is of course very cold. :) It is best to set off early, then you have the waterfall to yourself. More people come in the afternoon. The starting point is easy to reach via Dion, drive right to the top, you can park on the street by the small chapel. There are also two small waterfalls with pools just around the corner.

While there are no 'easy' rated trails, some of the moderate routes might be suitable for families with older children who are accustomed to hiking. The best time to visit the waterfalls in Βροντού (Καρίτσης-Δίου) is typically during spring (April to June) when snowmelt contributes to fuller cascades and the surrounding nature is vibrant. Autumn (September to October) also offers pleasant hiking conditions with cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage. Summers can be warm, but the shade of the gorges provides some relief.
Many trails in natural areas like Βροντού (Καρίτσης-Δίου) are dog-friendly, but it's always recommended to keep your dog on a leash, especially near waterfalls and in areas with wildlife. Given the moderate to difficult terrain, ensure your dog is fit enough for the hike. Always carry water for your pet and clean up after them.
For waterfall hikes in Βροντού (Καρίτσης-Δίου), it's advisable to wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip, as paths can be wet and slippery near cascades. Layered clothing is recommended to adapt to changing temperatures, and a waterproof jacket is useful for spray from the waterfalls or unexpected rain. Don't forget a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
Yes, several circular routes allow you to experience the waterfalls without retracing your steps. A notable option is the Kokkinos Vrachos Waterfall – Orlias Waterfall loop from Άγιος Βασίλειος, a challenging 10.5 km trail that takes you past multiple impressive waterfalls.
The duration of waterfall hikes varies significantly based on the trail's length and difficulty. Shorter, moderate loops like the Agias Koris Gorge loop from Άγιοι Απόστολοι can be completed in under two hours (approx. 1 hour 48 minutes). More challenging and longer routes, such as the Enipeas River Waterfalls – Stavros Hut loop from Dion - Olympos Municipality, can take around 5 hours to complete.
The region's deep gorges and flowing rivers often create natural pools suitable for a refreshing dip, especially during warmer months. While specific designated wild swimming spots are not always marked, many hikers enjoy cooling off in the clear waters near the base of waterfalls or in calmer river sections. Always exercise caution and assess water conditions before entering.
Parking availability often depends on the specific trailhead.
