Start your walk for free and avoid the paid carparks which are usually full. Free parking on the east side of town at gosmore, and on the west side at pound lane both are safe residential areas.

It's worth seeking the trenches out - they're not far beyond the sign. They don't show up well in photos but are fascinating to see.

This is more a warning than a recommendation! The road from Marlow along this valley is a delight - but you pay a very stiff price with this hill. As you turn the corner and glimpse the hill, you can't believe your eyes: It just rears up like a massive ski jump. Not only is it hard work even in a granny gear (28f/36r) in the rain the ribbed concrete means you have to actively balance your body to avoid either a wheelie or a power skid.

Pullingshill Wood is a picturesque beech woodland which is home to the rare ghost orchid. Interestingly, the site was used to train troops before WWI and you can still observe the ditches and trenches used for such purposes.

Famous residents have included T.S. Eliot, and Mary Shelley, who finished her Gothic masterpiece Frankenstein while living in the town. Marlow is also home to one of Britain’s most prestigious rowing clubs and has produced many Olympic rowers, including Sir Steve Redgrave, whose statue stands in Higginson Park.
