Wenceslaus I and Przemysl Otakar II worked here, who established a district administration center with a royal official here. The last owner was even Emperor Charles IV himself. The castle ruins have been protected as a Czech cultural monument since 1958. Legend of the cruel knight Hunec The legend tells of a cruel knight who tormented his subjects. Once when he was riding through the forest to Zduchovice, he was killed in that forest. For a long time there was a small chapel on that spot. To this day, his ghost appears at the castle, frightening the passers-by and those driving by.

Orlik Castle was originally built around the end of the 13th century on a high rocky spur facing northeast. The surroundings of the castle complex were changed considerably with the creation of the Orlík dam in 1960–1962. The beautiful castle, which has been in the possession of the Schwarzenberg family again since 1992, is mostly home to exhibition space and a smaller residential area for the family who are still living here.
