As you hike through the park, you'll find earthen pyramidal mounds, stockades, and other structures that were part of a fortified village. The inhabitants of Aztalan were part of a broader Mississippian culture, known for its mound-building and complex societies. The park has several short trails that take you through and around these historic sites, offering you a chance to explore the landscape that was once a thriving community.
