Despite the houses on the horizon, you can see Castle Loch qyite well from this set back, elevated approach. There are signs saying the Loch walk is 3 miles long

Campsite on the banks of Loch Kirk. Even if you're not camping, then views of the Loch are worth the detour.

Lochmaben is said to be the birthplace of King Robert the Bruce, with the statue marking this. The Bruce is often 'decorated' with hats and headscarves by the locals after a night in the pub!

A fine sandstone bridge welcomes you into Millhousebridge, a lovely little settlement on the banks of the Annan. This pretty hamlet has plenty going for it where hiking is concerned. It is on the route of the Annandale Way, a splendid long distant trek that charts the course of the Annan from its source in the Moffat Hills to its mouth in the glorious Solway Firth.

Lochmaben has plenty going for it. Sailing and fishing take place on the town's three beautiful lochs and the historic ruins of its castle are a great place to explore. Known as 'Bruce's town', King Robert the Bruce lived here during his time as Lord of Annandale. His fine statue looks out from in front of the town hall. It is an important stop off on the Annandale Way, where trekkers can resupply and enjoy pleasant lochside walks.
