Geology: The beach and its cliffs are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jurassic Coast, famous for its geology and fossil-rich Bridport Sands. Facilities & Activities: It is home to the very popular Hive Beach Café. The beach is a gateway to the South West Coast Path, offering spectacular cliff-top walks. Swimming is popular, but caution is advised due to the steep shelf and strong currents (it is not an RNLI lifeguarded beach). As far as I am aware, the West Bay coastal path is closed due to many landslip and the path disappearing into the bay.

Also known as the summer route. Take notice of that bit....SUMMER. The wetter the weather the more waterlogged and boggy the route becomes. This is the second time attempting this bit in the winter. We made the right decision and came off as soon as we could, and back on to the winter route along the shingle beach.
