November 10, 2023, View of Garstons Down

Garstons Downs has been listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) since 1971 as it is an important area of untouched chalkland. It can be fairly quiet up here compared to the more visited coastal downlands so a run up here should give you a wonderful opportunity to bathe in nature.

The bridleway leading to Rookley Farm crosses the River Medina. You have a choice... get your feet wet by crossing through the ford or take the wooden footbridge. Which will it be?

November 8, 2023, The Chequers Inn

The Chequers Inn makes a great start or finish location for a walk up to Garstons and Chillerton Downs. A hilly hike up to the stunning views is the perfect way to work up an appetite for a meal in the gardens or the cozy inside. Better still there is a bus stop right outside the pub which gives immediate access to the local footpaths.
