Water from this pond once pond once powered one of the largest iron works in the Weald employing over 200 men. In 1614 its owner, John Brown, was granted the monopoly of making iron and brass guns for the navy.

St Mary’s is a Grade I-listed church in Goudhurst. The church, which dates to the 13th century, is situated on a hilltop with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Inside, there are lots of fine sculptures and monuments to admire, mostly dating to the 15th century.
