The Cavallino Fort is an integral part of the "Ragogna Alta" Battery. Located on Mount Ragogna, this fort takes us back to the times of the First World War and, in particular, to the Battle of the Tagliamento, one of the crucial battles of the Caporetto retreat. Between October 30 and November 1, 1917, the "Bologna" Brigade strenuously opposed the Austro-German advance, precisely in this area, to slow down their advance and allow the Italian army to reorganize. The Cavallino Fort was a crucial strategic point, designed to protect ammunition, materials and artillerymen in the event of bombing. Together with other fortified structures on the mountain, this battery was intended to control access to the Tagliamento River and the surrounding bridges. During the Battle of the Tagliamento, the battery hosted the command of the Bologna Brigade. Today, exploring the Forte del Cavallino, we can still feel the echo of those difficult days, when the fate of thousands of soldiers was intertwined with these hills. Its history is a reminder of the tenacity of the soldiers who fought in this place and their sacrifice.
