March 6, 2026, Fire Pit with lake view

This viewpoint with benches and a fire pit marks the official end of the Rock Glacier Trail. Although the trail ends here, some continue climbing up the rock glacier along an undefined trail. Only attempt this if you have proper footwear, and are prepared for loose rocks and some scrambling. Otherwise, this is a great spot to stop, relax and take in the view before turning around.

This trailhead sits at the west end of Haines Road and has parking and access to Rock Glacier Trail. The trail starts along a raised boardwalk through a marsh, and then starts a climb along rockier terrain along a rock glacier. There are interpretive panels along the trail with information about the rock glacier and its surrounding area.

The Liard River stretches 1,115 kilometers and is one of the largest tributaries of the Mackenzie River system. It begins it's journey at the Yukon Plateau near Muncho Lake and flows southeast through the rugged Liard River Valley before finishing at the Mackenzie River. The Liard is a wild river that flows through remote boreal forests and mountains, with natural hot springs along its banks.

The Miles Canyon Suspension Bridge spans the emerald-green waters of the Yukon River where it flows through the volcanic rock walls of Miles Canyon. The bridge was built in 1922 to help cross the Yukon River before there were any nearby roads. Today's modern suspension bridge was built in the same spot and is a pedestrian-only bridge that gently sways.

Driving southbound on YT-2, pass under large cables coming down the mountain attaching to an old, wooden structure, the Venus Silver Mine. There is parking on the side of the road right after that, or keep going and park on the right where the trail starts. There is room for a car or two at the trailhead, the base of an old 4x4 trail up with a yellow gate.

Take a look at this old mining site, a silver, lead, and zinc mine built in the early 1900s. Today, be careful for rusty relics on the trail and check out the old mine ruins from a distance to stay safe.
