The Pochtenkessel is an impressive waterfall and gorge section above Frutigen in the Bernese Oberland. Here, the Engstlige river plunges through a narrow, rocky gorge, forming an imposing natural cauldron. The Pochtenkessel is particularly beautiful after rain or during the snowmelt, when the Engstlige carries significantly more water. But even at low water levels, the rock formations and the power of the water are impressive. A worthwhile detour for anyone who wants to experience wild nature, water, and impressive rock landscapes on their hike.

The Brandsee is located at around 1,809 m above sea level and was originally created as a reservoir for snowmaking. In summer, it becomes a popular bathing lake and, with its water slide, offers a lot of fun, especially for children. On-site, there are several barbecue areas, a portable toilet, and a small, staffed kiosk. Those who fancy a bit more action can also rent a SUP. A great place to combine a hike with swimming, playing, and relaxing.

Deep in the secluded Gastern Valley, two distinctive mountain streams meet: the clear, tranquil Schwarzenbach and the more powerful Kander. The visible difference in color and current is particularly impressive and can be beautifully observed at their confluence. Surrounded by steep rock faces, ancient mountain forests, and the typical Gastern Valley stillness, this is a moment of nature that is both invigorating and calming – a little-known gem for anyone who loves wild river landscapes. 💧🌿📸✨
