At this point, endless expanses: on one side the Wadden Sea, on the other the Koog, in between a dike and sheep. From here, the road heads towards Hamburger Hallig. Very easy to drive on asphalt, wide track.

Very tasty food, also available in the sheltered outdoor area if requested. We felt in good hands.

The Beltringharder Koog is an important nature reserve on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein, northwest of the city of Husum and near the Nordstrand peninsula. The Koog was dammed in the 1980s as part of coastal protection measures and now serves as a sanctuary for numerous species of birds and other animals. It is part of the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and covers an area of around 3,350 hectares. The Beltringharder Koog was originally created to serve as a compensation area for other coastal protection projects and at the same time to improve coastal protection in the region. The poldering of the area created a new, artificial landscape of water areas, salt marshes and freshwater biotopes, which quickly developed into an important habitat for many animal and plant species. The Koog is a paradise for birds in particular: many migratory birds use it as a resting place on their long journeys, and numerous species breed here. The Beltringharder Koog area is best known for its excellent bird watching opportunities. In spring and autumn, when migratory birds pass through the region, the Koog is an ideal place to see large flocks of waders and water birds. Species regularly sighted include lapwings, oystercatchers, greylag geese, shelducks and many more. Rare species such as the white-tailed eagle or short-eared owl can also be seen here occasionally. For visitors, the Beltringharder Koog offers numerous hiking and cycling trails that lead through the nature reserve. There are several lookout points and observation huts along the dikes and water areas, which allow a good view of the bird life and the landscape without disturbing the animals. The trails are well signposted and are ideal for long walks or bike rides in nature. Information boards along the route provide information about the flora and fauna of the area as well as the origins and significance of the Koog. In addition to the birdlife, the Beltringharder Koog is also home to a variety of other animal species. Frogs and toads live in the freshwater areas of the Koog, and the wide salt marshes are home to various insect species. The grass-covered dikes are also a typical habitat for sheep, which are used here to look after the dike vegetation.

The snack bar “Zum Strandkorb” on Nordstrand is a popular destination for visitors who want to enjoy a delicious and uncomplicated meal after a day in nature. This charming snack bar is located very close to the dike and offers its guests a wonderful view of the North Sea and the wide landscape of the peninsula. A highlight of the snack bar is the relaxed atmosphere - here guests can sit back comfortably, enjoy the fresh sea breeze and take in the surroundings while enjoying a delicious snack. The menu of the snack bar “Zum Strandkorb” offers a selection of typical North German dishes that delight both locals and tourists. The fresh fish sandwiches, which are made with freshly caught fish straight from the North Sea, are particularly popular. Other classics such as currywurst, chips and homemade soups are also available. If you are a little hungry, there is also a selection of cakes and coffee specialties, which are particularly popular with cyclists and hikers who take a break here. The snack bar's location right on the dike makes it an ideal stop on a bike ride or hike along the Nordstrand coast. The comfortable outdoor seating, some in real beach chairs, invites you to relax and enjoy the fresh sea air. Children can play on the adjacent playground while the adults treat themselves to a well-deserved break.
