There is hope again for the Köhlermühle or Skalmühle on the Schwarzwasser in Spittwitz, because the property was bought privately. The entire mill technology is still in the residential mill house with the sloping roof and the whole thing is to be turned into a museum. The residential building is to be built in the adjacent building. Around 1000 people come here for the annual mill festival (the next one will be next year at Pentecost). This also explains why a new small playground suddenly appeared next to the ruins.

For us it was simply closed today and we thought the inn was no longer in operation. But that doesn't seem to be the case, as there are current and positive reviews online. So it's a small, cozy village inn where the food is freshly prepared. Whether it's schnitzel or steak, everything is super delicious.

It wasn't easy for us to find this stone bridge in the forest over the Schwarzwasser. Its pillars have certainly seen better days, but the massive stone that crosses the Schwarzwasser will outlive us. Given today's standards, the crossing and its railing would surely be closed immediately. (:-)

After walking through the natural cave, you will find this beautifully laid out rest area at the edge of the path or field, even though there is of course no sensational view to be found here.

This bridge over the Schwarzwasser is still fully intact and can be walked on or driven on. Other bridges are not doing so well, but some of them are a little more romantic.

In 2006, the weir for the Skalmühle, which was no longer in operation anyway, was dismantled. The cross-barrier (bottom drop) was removed. Since then, the area has been more easily passable for fish and aquatic organisms.
