Monumental ruin of a 14th-century Franciscan friary on an older site of St. Molaga, at the mouth of the Argideen River. The Gothic windows, cloister garth and tower form an impressive silhouette against Courtmacsherry Bay. Freely accessible as a quiet, historical viewing stop in the village of Timoleague.

We really enjoyed visiting Ross Castle in Killarney. This castle is particularly impressive from the outside and the surroundings with the beautiful lake are just totally romantic. I personally didn't find the interior that spectacular, but once you've had a look around the castle you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view at the top!

September 7, 2024, King John's Castle

King John's Castle (Irish: Caisleán Luimnigh) also known as Limerick Castle is a 13th-century castle located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon. Although the site dates back to 922 when the Vikings lived on the Island, the castle itself was built on the orders of King John of England in 1200. Some of the external walls, towers and fortifications remain, and the site is open for visitors. The remains of a Viking settlement were uncovered during archaeological excavations at the site in 1900. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_John%27s_Castle_(Limerick)

- The ruins of 16th century Minard Castle are located right on the beach and offer magnificent views over Dingle Bay towards the Iveragh Peninsula.

Here, the Irish fought with their Spanish allies against the English over 400 years ago - and were ultimately defeated. Entry is still 5 euros, 4 euros for seniors. That's OK, as there is a lot to see, including exhibitions. Large free parking lot in front of the site. In the immediate vicinity there is an ancient, very overgrown cemetery.

One of Ireland's most famous and picturesque sights: a mountain with a fortified monastery ruin and another monastery ruin in the valley. A beautiful complex; solitude, however, is something else entirely.
