You can eat very well here and the Rechenberger beer from "just around the corner" tastes great from the tap.

The ideal place for the big family picnic! At this rustic resting place with the great massive log table, it is wonderful to pause. While the kids empty their lunch boxes (or the coveted emergency gummy bears), you can enjoy the magnificent, almost fairytale-like view of Purschenstein Castle. By the way, the large wooden table is also extremely practical if the little ones want to unpack their carving knives and work on their hiking poles. An absolutely idyllic stop to recharge your batteries for the rest of the way!

A real wooden art highlight for the kids directly below Purschenstein Castle! The 'Purschensteiner Vogelhochzeit' (Purschenstein Bird Wedding) awaits you here – beautiful, large carved figures that are lovingly staged. This impressive craftsmanship not only makes children's eyes light up, but also provides a fantastic photo opportunity. Perfect for stimulating the little ones' imagination right at the start of the tour and motivating them for the upcoming ascent to the Schwartenberg! 🦉 Checked & found to be absolutely family-relaxed by @wanderfamilie.erzgebirge

The Waldhotel Kreuztanne didn't just fill us up, it made us pretty happy too – and that's saying something! The upscale gastronomy here is convincing all along the line: every dish is a small work of art, which almost makes you feel guilty to eat it... almost. The flavors are so finely tuned that you wonder if the kitchen can secretly do magic. The service? Simply first-class! Friendly, attentive, and with just the right amount of charm – we felt like they could read our every wish from our eyes (luckily including the one for dessert). Especially nice: Dogs are also warmly welcomed at the Waldhotel, making the stay even more pleasant for all animal lovers. Yes, the prices are high, but honestly: you get so much quality and enjoyment here that in the end you think "It was worth it!" rather than "Oh dear, my account...". Conclusion: We are completely thrilled and have already mentally booked our next visit. As we were leaving, the thought briefly crossed our minds to just stay seated and order the next round right away – it was that good! (Visit on 28.03.2026 at lunchtime)

This group of wooden figures has adorned the town center since 2008. It was created by the Storch company from a 200-year-old spruce tree, based on an idea by Prof. Gerd Kaden. The client was the Neuhausen municipal association.

Crossing is possible via a footpath directly next to the main road. Great view from the other side of the dam.

The Purschenstein Bird Wedding came about by chance. Professor Gerd Kaden from Neuhausen was offered a roughly 200-year-old spruce tree from the Rabenau Valley. He designed the figures of the Bird Wedding from this single trunk. Since 2008, the ensemble has stood in the center of the village and, with Purschenstein Castle in the background, is one of Neuhausen's most popular photo subjects. https://neuhausen.de/purschensteiner-vogelhochzeit/
