At the Possel Dam, near the northern sea lock of the old Wöhrden harbour, two freely usable beach chairs have been set up as a place to rest directly above the lock. With the beautiful view over the Wöhrden harbour stream towards the North Sea dike, one must be careful not to get lost in thought for too long and possibly come home too late… 😉 At the lock, there are two apple trees, which you can safely help yourself to for provisions at the right time of year.

The Peters House, neighboring to the south, was built in 1778 in rococo style. The nearby inn “Oldenwöhrden” (the old name for Wöhrden, which is still occasionally used today) is a new building from the early 20th century, in which the sandstone ornaments and an elaborate portal from the burnt down single-story previous building from 1634 were inserted. https://www.echt-dithmarschen.de/typ-dithmarschen/gehenswuerdigkeiten/details/materialhaus/

HISTOUR point WÖ2 Material house and neighboring houses, oldest house in Dithmarschen The materials house is the oldest house in Dithmarschen and is located in Wöhrden on Hafenstrasse. It was built in 1519 as a windowless warehouse made of oak framework with a thatched roof and was mainly used to store grain, especially seeds. In addition, farm goods, such as clothes, linen, flax, hops, honey, etc., were stored there. The materials house (it most recently served as a fire department equipment shed) was restored in 1928 to become the “Waterbörs”. Only the gable including the supporting wooden beam is from 1519 and is characterized by Taustab shaped bricks. It can give an idea of the appearance and scale of a more elaborate residential building from before the Conquest in 1559. Today it is used as a private residence. https://www.echt-dithmarschen.de/typ-dithmarschen/gehenswuerdigkeiten/details/materialhaus/

first mentioned in 1281 One of the most beautiful baroque churches in Schleswig-Holstein Wöhrden was first mentioned as an independent parish in 1281. As Count Gerhard III. In the war with Dithmarschen in 1319 Wöhrden was besieged, the Dithmarschers trapped in the church dared to launch a sortie and defeated the noble army. The church, which stands on the highest hill in Dithmarschen, was built in the late Baroque style between 1786 and 1788 by the Saxon-born master builder Johann August Rothe after the previous building was demolished. The tower was renovated in 1956/57. Of the four bells, one weighing 300 kilograms dates from 1493, the other weighing 1,200 kilograms was cast by Hermann Klinghe in 1453. The hall building with a five-sided choir end and high, light windows is structured on the outside by pilasters. Triangular gables with the monogram of the Danish King Christian VII are emblazoned above the entrances in the south and north. https://www.echt-dithmarschen.de/typ-dithmarschen/gehenswuerdigkeiten/details/st-nicolai-kirche/

Beautiful and quite bright church in the Baroque architectural style. Further information can be researched here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Nicolai-Kirche_(W%C3%B6hrden) Remarkable because the pulpit altar and the baptismal angel are not found that often.
