Year of construction: March 17, 1710 Foundation purpose: On the occasion of a life-threatening illness of one of his sons, the father, Count Joh. Nikolaus, vowed to erect a statue of the Virgin Mary in Wallsee in honor of the Immaculate Conception for the salvation of his son. He did indeed recover, and on March 17, 1710, a contract was signed with the Viennese sculptor Benedikt Stober for the erection of this Marian column. Renovations took place in 1854, 1898, 1955, 1975, 1994, and 2006. The construction cost at the time was 438 guilders.
