All four round corner towers with the curtain wall and parts of the ramparts are still preserved from the once mighty Karlsbach Castle. In 1160 Karlsbach was mentioned for the first time at the same time as the castle located there. When a large part of Karlsbach Castle was demolished in 1783 and used to build the nearby Hubertendorf Castle, the fate of the castle was sealed. Today it is privately owned by the Hatschek family. Rupert Hatschek converted the farm building of the former outer bailey into a neat modern castle in the years 1950-1960.

The Hengstberghütte is a worthwhile stop for a break. In the rustic hut, you can fortify yourself with tasty salted sticks, breads and cakes. From the terrace there is a wide view of the hilly landscape.
