Easy hikes and walks around Prüm

Occasionally, in the depiction of the cross in such a Calvary chapel, one will not only see the familiar INRI inscription above Jesus' head, but also a skull at his feet. Influenced by corresponding adventure films in cinema and television, we are most familiar with this symbol as the flag on pirate ships. Brother Franziskus Joest explains the Christian background of this symbol – perhaps not so well known to the observer lingering here – in "Erfüllt ist die Zeit – Das Markusevangelium als Jahresbegleiter" as follows: + "It is the head of Adam. According to an old legend, Golgotha [the place of Jesus' crucifixion] was the hill under which Adam had been buried since time immemorial. This is, of course, not historically verifiable in any way, but it nevertheless contains a deep truth. For through Jesus' death, humanity is redeemed, Adam's curse and separation from God are lifted, and sin, death, and the devil are defeated. In pictorial representations [often seen on icons of the Eastern Church with the motif of Jesus' crucifixion], the blood flowing from the cross touches Adam's skull, thus indicating that he too participates in the redemption, and that all of humanity, which fell in him, is raised up again through the cross."

The Schneifel Trail is a challenging long-distance hiking trail in the Eifel (approx. 72 km) from Kronenburg to Birresborn. It leads over the Schneifel ridge through forests, moors and rocky landscapes. It is recommended to divide the trail into three stages. Highlights are the Schönecken castle ruins and the Birresborn ice caves. A good level of fitness is required due to some steep climbs. The Postferiendorf in Prüm was originally built by the recreational organization of the German Federal Post Office and is now operated by Sozialwerk.Bund. It is located above the town of Prüm on the edge of the forest and comprises 39 holiday homes and 4 holiday apartments. The facilities include a community center with a restaurant, lounges, games room, mini golf, sports fields and barbecue areas. The Prüm event and conference center is part of the Eifel youth hostel and offers modern rooms for conferences and events.
