This little reservoir is dwarfed by the nearby Horsetooth Reservoir. Still, Dixon is a fun destination in its own right with a non-motorized boat launch and some easy mountain biking trails. There is also good fishing here (check local regulations).

The Dixon Reservoir is a small body of water at the base of the foothills below Horsetooth Reservoir surrounded by a protected Natural Area. The reservoir is a great fishing spot where many fish are stocked annually including pumpkinseed sunfish, bluegill, bass, channel catfish, black crappy, and grass carp.

The Arthurs Rock Trailhead is located at the very end of Lodgepole Drive. There is a large parking area, trail information, and vault toilets. From this trailhead you can access popular trails like the Arthurs Rock Trail, the South Valley Loop, and the Overlook Trail. This lot can fill up quickly, especially on beautiful weekends in the spring, summer, and fall so be sure to arrive early and try to carpool with a hiking buddy!

The Overlook Trail takes you to a hill overlooking Horsetooth Reservoir. This short, but challenging summit is a great place to take in unobstructed views of the reservoir and the town of Fort Collins. Be aware: this is an extremely popular trail with hikers, mountain bikers, and runners. Be aware of and courteous to others and remember, uphill folks have the right of way!

After passing a large, crumbly rock formation the trail trends steeply upward. After climbing some wooden stairs you are rewarded with a great overlook, which is a nice spot to stop and sip some water before continuing on to Horseshoe Rock.
