The former Benedictine convent with its church in Preetz is one of the region's most important cultural monuments. It was founded in 1210/11. Since the Reformation (1542), the convent has been under the care of the Schleswig-Holstein knighthood, who transformed it into a women's foundation, which still exists today and is administered by the convent council. From the World War memorial there is a beautiful view down to the Schwentine river, which is somewhat wider here... you can often see small rowing boats on it.

Following a design by Rudolph Matthias Dallin from 1720, the church was built in its current form in the 18th century. However, its origins date back to the 12th century. During the last renovation from 1938 to 1941, the original choir was separated from the nave by a wall, allowing it to be used separately as a "small church."

A visit to the church is worthwhile. Also visit the chapel behind the altar. We were lucky enough to have a pianist playing in the empty church. I read on a flyer that there was "market music." Maybe Google it before planning your trip.
