The late 19th century hit “We are the singers of Finsterwalde” and the Finsterwalder Liederfest named after this title also made the city known nationwide. The additional name “Sängerstadt” has therefore been allowed to be used in official correspondence since 2009. Since May 16, 2013, with the approval of the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior, the city has officially used this additional designation, including on the town entrance signs. This bronze statue commemorates the singers. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finsterwalde

The listed parish church of St. Trinitatis in Finsterwalde was built in the 16th century and is named after the Holy Trinity. Construction of the present church in Finsterwalde began in 1575 by master mason Martin Piger from Dresden. The tower was initially completed in just under three years. The dome, with its gilded spire and weather vane, was added on August 19, 1578. The nave of the original St. Mary's Church was originally intended to be preserved. In 1581, the choir was built, incorporating the previous building. In 1584, Otto II of Dieskau commissioned a completely new construction of the church, and the old nave was demolished. By October 21, 1585, the new walls had already been built, and construction of the vaulted ceiling had begun. The nave was completed in 1593. The interior work was completed shortly before the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War. On May 14, 1626, and again on August 8, 1667, lightning struck the church, necessitating minor repairs. In May 1660, the wife of the then mayor of Finsterwalde donated a chandelier for the church hall. The church's original bells—the oldest dating from 1517—were melted down for weapons production in 1656. In 1881, the interior was restored, but the work was not carried out properly, and some of the furnishings were damaged. In 1893, the church steeple received a new spire ball and a new weather vane. In 1911, the altar, pulpit, and several epitaphs were replaced. The exterior was renovated in 1978. An extensive restoration of the church, both inside and out, was completed in 2006. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinitatiskirche_(Finsterwalde)
