August 21, 2024, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church (Former Palace Chapel), Puławy

Today, there is the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Puławy https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parafia_Wniebowzi%C4%99cia_Naj%C5%9Bwi%C4%99tszej_Maryi_Panny_w_Pu%C5%82awach

The concept of the church, including the integration of the building into the surroundings according to the design by Christian Piotr Aigner, was accepted by Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski with a handwritten signature on 3 January 1800. Construction work lasted until 1803. The building was to be designated as the Czartoryski family mausoleum. After Poland regained independence in 1919, a parish was established here and the palace chapel became a church. During World War II, the portico and dome were destroyed, and rebuilt in 1945–1946. Further renovation work was carried out in 1973. The stairs leading to the church in the form of 10 terraces were replaced with 24 steps in the 1930s. In 2006, the flooring from 1803 was removed and replaced with a new one[4]. The church is located on Aignera Street.

Visitors can see and even try out recumbent bikes, circus bikes and other unusual bikes. Children and teenagers have the most fun riding galloping bikes. A former village whose inhabitants were dispossessed in 1936. The area was designated for the training ground of the Air Force Officer School. Currently, there is a chapel, a small shelter and a well on the site.

The reserve is a valuable refuge for water and marsh birds. bittern, white-tailed eagle, lesser spotted eagle, green fox, white-winged tern, crane, greylag goose, and in the nearby alders - eagle owl. The population of the grebe is one of the largest in Poland (Wikipedia). There are a couple of tables with benches. At the end of May, countless mosquitoes attacked me. In fact, I stopped for a moment and flew on.

I came across this place by accident, and driving 270km + that day, I had no time to stop. For cycling geeks, it's probably worth a visit.
