Easy hikes and walks around Bilice

On Wednesdays there is a weekly market, there is everything, especially homemade things. Between the old town and the harbor!

The entrance fee at the end of April 2026 was only €16 and it was well attended but not too crowded. An absolute highlight and a "must see" if you are in Croatia! Many fig trees line the path, which can only be explored via a wooden boardwalk. Although we encountered a person with a physical disability (in a wheelchair), the path is only partially suitable for people with disabilities due to some steps.

We were there at the end of April. The weather was great, not too crowded, and even a wheelchair user was on the boardwalk. The flora and fauna are impressive! Admission was €16. Souvenirs were completely overpriced and a scoop of ice cream cost €3.

A great waterfall, but very crowded. Even in the off-season, it's very crowded and costs €20 per person to enter (€40 in peak season). For nature lovers, the spots further up in Krka National Park are definitely more recommended.

This memorial sculpture at the small spomenik complex in Vodice, Croatia is dedicated to the fallen Partisan soldiers of the Vodice region who took part in the Liberation Battle against fascism from 1941 to 1945.

St. James's Cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. The cathedral is one of the most important buildings in the Dalmatian region. The magnificent Gothic and Renaissance church took almost 100 years to build. The cathedral was also a filming location for the popular TV series "Game of Thrones" and served as the backdrop for the "Iron Bank."

One of the few saints highly esteemed outside of Christianity is Saint Francis, known in German-speaking countries as Francis of Assisi. Francis was born in Assisi in 1181/82 and died in 1226. A bon vivant in his youth as the son of wealthy parents, he later turned to Christ. One day, while praying in the half-ruined church of San Damiano, situated on a hillside outside the city walls of Assisi, he heard the voice of Christ coming down from the cross, calling him to "rebuild his Church." At first, he took this request literally and restored the church building. Later, he came to realize that the Church was primarily about the community of believers. Francis became a role model for many people; they joined him, and the "Order of the Friars Minor" (Ordo Fratrum Minorum) of Francis of Assisi was founded. Today, the vast Franciscan order family includes three male branches: the Franciscans, the Friars Minorites, and the Capuchins; and two female branches: the Franciscan nuns and the Poor Clares. In addition, there is the "Third" or "Secular" Order, which is open to women and men who do not take the traditional religious vows (poverty, chastity, and obedience) and continue to live in their families and professions.
