A landscape like a painting, with a green, hilly cultural landscape that gently slopes down to the deep blue Ionian Sea. This is typical for the coastal regions of Kefalonia.

The Monastery of Saint Gerasimos is considered the most important religious center of the island and houses the relics of the patron saint, Saint Gerasimos. Saint Gerasimos founded the monastery in 1560 on the site of an older chapel in the Omala valley. He named it "New Jerusalem". Gerasimos lived as a hermit and was known for his asceticism and his ability to heal. His incorruptible body is preserved today in a silver sarcophagus in the monastery church. The monastery attracts numerous believers, especially on the commemoration days (August 16 and October 20).

Although loggerhead turtles can usually only be observed between May and September (nesting season), they can be found in the harbor of Argostoli all year round, especially in the morning hours. They are then waiting for food scraps from the returning fishermen.

Not a lake, but the Gulf of Argostoli (also called the Gulf of Lixouri or the Gulf of Livadi). This separates the Paliki peninsula from the rest of the island.

The Hydrobiotope Livadi (Greek: Λιβάδι) on the Paliki peninsula is one of the island's most important wetlands and is home to over 100 different bird species. The wetland covers about 80 hectares in the northwestern part of the Gulf of Argostoli. It is a coastal marshland that serves as a sanctuary for rare and endangered birds such as the Great Egret, the Purple Heron, and even the Imperial Eagle. Nearby are the ruins of an old rural prison from the 19th century, destroyed by earthquakes, as well as archaeological sites. Livadi is a paradise for ornithologists. Information on the best observation points and hiking routes can be found on Birdingplaces.
