Pöhl Dam

Highlight • Monument

The dam of the Pöhl dam is a curved concrete dam. The dam was built from 1958 to 1964 near Jocketa (today part of the municipality of Pöhl) in the Vogtland (commissioned in 1964). The dam takes its name from the village of Pöhl, which is now under water. In fact, the underwater location serves as a diving attraction. The dammed water, the shoot, is a tributary of the White Elster.

The dam wall of the Muldenberg dam is a curved gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry according to the Intze principle. It was built from 1920 to 1925 near Schöneck in the Vogtland region, south of the town of Muldenberg that gave it its name, and put into operation in 1925. It has the longest wall crown of all dam walls in Saxony. However, only 476 m of the 525 m are visible. A control passage in the dam wall was only built in a length of 90 meters during the reconstruction of the wall section destroyed by an explosion in 1945. It also had the function of a drainage tunnel. It was only extended by 200 meters in the 1960s. For high water, the dam has a fixed overflow in the middle of the wall. It then flows into a stilling basin at the base of the dam.

Bad Elster Rose Garden

Highlight • Natural Monument

The rose garden at the entrance to Paul Schindel Park, which was laid out in 1882/1883, shines again in new splendor. As part of the EU project “Park Adventures Bad Elster - Aš”, the facility was completely renovated in 2012. The design was brought as close as possible to the historically proven initial situation.
The heart of the newly designed system is the slightly elevated circular bed with a radius of almost 12 meters. As was the case in Paul Schindel's time, the center of the round bed is a Canary Island date palm, planted with around 200 roses.

Also called Lake Louisa. In the years 1893 to 1895, Lake Louisa was created from a mined mineral moor deposit by horticultural inspector Paul Schindel. Today you can rent rowing boats and pedal boats to explore the lake. The Falkenstein Dam was built in the 1970s to supply the region's textile industry with industrial water. After the industry closed in the 1990s, its main purpose became flood protection. The Falkenstein Dam is also a designated EU bathing area and is therefore very popular as a leisure and recreation area.
