The High Bridge Trail – High Bridge loop from Farmville offers a rewarding jogging experience, tracing a historic rail-trail through diverse Virginia landscapes. You'll glide over a generally flat path of crushed limestone, passing through rural farmland and forested areas, with the iconic High Bridge providing breathtaking panoramic views of the Appomattox River. This route is perfect for a long, steady run where the scenery changes frequently, keeping your mind engaged as your legs carry you forward.

To plan your visit, note that while the 10.1-mile (16.3 km) route is rated difficult, its 364 feet (111 metres) of elevation gain is spread out, making it feel more accessible for joggers. The estimated duration is around 1 hour and 58 minutes. Parking is available in Farmville, and while drinking water isn't always on the trail, restrooms and picnic spots are conveniently located, especially near the High Bridge.

This trail is a National Recreation Trail, recognized for its historical significance and connection to the community. The Holliday Lake State Park loop offers a scenic jogging experience, winding through diverse landscapes that include lush hardwood forests, tranquil wetlands, and managed pine plantations. As you navigate the trail, you'll enjoy continuous views of Holliday Lake, with a notable highlight being the footbridge crossing over the dam's spillway, providing panoramic vistas of the water. This route is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest.

This moderate 5.1-mile (8.3 km) jogging trail features 352 feet (107 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 1 hour and 1 minute to complete. While generally accessible, some sections can be hilly, especially around the dam where wooden steps assist on a steep incline. Be prepared for potential muddy spots and overgrown areas, and consider bringing bug spray for a more comfortable run.

Beyond the scenic views, the trail is a haven for wildlife, making it excellent for birdwatching; keep an eye out for osprey, bald eagles, and white-tailed deer. The park's location within the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest provides a peaceful, natural setting, and the Lakeshore Trail connects to other shorter trails, offering options for extending your adventure if you wish.

Easy hardpack trail suitable for all bike types. Bridge offers great views and is quite the engineering feat. Camp Paradise offers a bathroom and water stop with snacks. Nice midwayish replenish point if riding the entire trail from end to end.
