Bad Herrenalb station opened on July 2, 1898, and has served as the terminus of the Albtalbahn (Alb Valley Railway) from Karlsruhe ever since. The station building from that year has been preserved in exemplary condition and now houses the station restaurant, a passenger waiting room, the local driving school, and several apartments. An old goods shed also still exists. Unfortunately, the old two-bay locomotive shed with its turrets was demolished during the gauge conversion. A new depot for light rail vehicles has served as its replacement since 1975, and was expanded to two tracks in 1990. The gauge conversion also changed the entire appearance of the station, as a turning loop had to be built around the station building to allow the light rail vehicles to turn around. In 1979, the platforms were given a hall roof, created from the roof of the former Baden-Baden city station. To mark the official handover of the new hall, a station festival was held, which remains an integral part of the city's events calendar to this day.

The tower is cordoned off and inaccessible. The last renovation was in 1984. I assume that after more than 40 years, it's time for a thorough inspection of the tower and its 125 steps leading to the viewing platform.

This is not the exact highest point at 709.1 meters, but only the sign. If you follow the path towards Artusstein, you will walk towards the highest point in the Enzkreis.

The Heuberg, at 709.1 m above sea level (NHN), is the highest elevation in the Enzkreis district. However, this point is not located at the signpost, but in an inaccessible spot in the forest several hundred meters away.

Large crossroads with many possible routes coming together. Also a good shelter in case a sudden rain storm appears.

Bad Herrenalb is easy to reach with the Albtalbahn. From Bad Herrenalb you can hike through the Albtal along the Alb to Ettlingen. If the way is too far, you can take shortcuts every few kilometers and continue the rest of the way by train.

Normally, the Albtalbahn is a modern means of local transport that brings commuters and day trippers to the northern Black Forest quickly and in time with electric trains. However, once a month you can also immerse yourself in the good old days when the historic steam train of the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde (UEF) travels from Ettlingen to Bad Herrenalb.
