A little further away you can still find the old canal and locks with lock houses. I have added 2 or 3 pictures.

This bridge is a real challenge with a touring bike loaded with a lot of luggage and cannot be managed by women without courageous help. What a joke it is that it is "easy to cross"!!!

The Écluse de Réchicourt-le-Château shaft lock, built between 1960 and 1965 and approximately 3 km from the main town along the Rhine-Marne Canal, replaces a lock staircase with six locks. Depending on the water level in the canal, their fall height is 15.45 to 16.10 meters. This makes it the highest French lock in a barge canal.

An absolute highlight, because from up there you can see the lake district and the Vosges 🚵♂️

When the sun is shining, carrying it with the bikepacking setup is not that easy, but there is a wonderful view from the top all the way to the Black Forest in the east.

Impressive lock 16 meters high on the Marne-Rhine canal. It is an ideal bivouac spot, you will find many picnic tables as well as barbecues and even a shared library. The site is remarkably maintained by the Voies Navigales de France and the atmosphere is particularly pleasant.

More than the shelter itself, it is its location and its history that make it a special place. Beneath its modest appearance, the construction reminds us that Abbé Grégoire, icon of the French Revolution, certainly took this path to go to school in his childhood. Dating from the 1990s, the building was built in this location to take advantage of the site's point of view. The blue line of the Vosges is even visible there. If you are hiking for several days, this is the ideal place to sleep. The shelter being rudimentary, a tarp is however necessary to protect yourself as best as possible from possible bad weather.
