The col de la Croix Perrin, located at an altitude of 1218m on the border of the municipalities of Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors and Lans-en-Vercors, is a major site for forestry, hospitality, and history. It is said that here, a certain Mr. Perrin had an unfortunate encounter with a bear, when they were still present in the Vercors.

At the end of the 19th century, three small power plants were already operating. The Germe plant, decommissioned before 1939, whose penstock was still used for a few years to supply Sassenage with drinking water. The Sassenage slopes waterfall, built in 1901, captured the waters from the outlet canal of the Engins plant. Sabotaged during the war, it was not reused: its facilities were too old and the flow rate too low. The Engins plant, the most important, dates from 1897. The electromechanical equipment was renovated in 1941, but the penstock, heavily scaled, frequently burst and its operation ceased in 1958. Since nationalization, EDF managed and then modernized the equipment by reinforcing the Engins dam to supply the new Sassenage plant in 1958.
