Although legend has it that this bridge was built by the devil, tricked by an old woman from the village he had to cross daily, it is actually of Roman origin and was part of the Via Augusta. It was designed for ox-drawn carts to pass. It still retains the abutments built in large ashlar blocks bearing inscriptions from the legions that worked on it. A flood swept away the central pillar, and it was rebuilt in 1143 with a single Gothic-style arch. However, the current bridge is a reconstruction from the 1960s. Until the 14th century, it was the only viaduct crossing the lower Llobregat.

Collbató literally lives attached to the rock of Montserrat. Its streets ascend the hillside and the massif dominates every corner of the town, which for centuries was one of the natural accesses to the monastery.
