The castle is a really extraordinary historical place. The history since the Salian era in the 11th century is clearly explained on boards. The castle was considered impregnable and it stayed that way until 1761, when the French conquered it with massive means during the 7 Years War and then blew it up. So there wasn't much left of the lower castle. In the upper castle, which is cordoned off because it is probably too exposed and dangerous, more remains can be seen.
