One of the 26 Coudray churches. Coudray was Goethe's city architect. The church's bells were cast in Innsbruck by the Grassmayr company in 2019. In 2020, they replaced the existing chilled cast iron bells and were installed in a new belfry.

St. Vitus Church was built in 1834 in the neoclassical style with a nave designed by Clemens Wenzeslaus Coudray and an attached medieval tower with a cross vault and turret. The second gallery houses a pulpit and an organ by J. F. Schulze. Another small organ is located in the tower, which is used as a winter church. The entrances to the church are each equipped with a portal on each side of the nave. https://www.stiftung-kiba.de/kirchen/st-vitus-hopfgarten

Lyonel Charles Adrian Feininger (* July 17, 1871 in New York; † January 13, 1956 in the same place) also visited Hopfgarten. On his bicycle tours, the Weimar-based artist also captured Hopfgarten on his sketchbook and then created a woodcut from it. It dates from 1920. The Weimarer Land district commemorates Feininger's work with several displays, including in Niederzimmern and Hopfgarten. http://www.niederzimmern.de/aktuell/2007_09_03.htm
