The Elbbrücke Bad Schandau, a central structure of the B172 built in 1977, was closed in November 2024 due to safety deficiencies. After a successful load test, it has been open to traffic up to 7.5 tons again since April 2025. Despite the reopening, a replacement new build is planned in the long term, while a temporary bridge is intended to provide relief.

Mariánský most (Mary's Bridge) is a striking cable-stayed bridge over the Elbe River. The reinforced concrete bridge was opened in 1998 and is open to car traffic and pedestrians. It is 179 meters long, and its two diagonally positioned pylons are 60 meters high and together support 30 steel cables. The bridge faces directly toward Mariánská skála (Mary's Rock). The architect was Roman Koucký, born in 1959.

With beautiful sunny weather and still in the off-season, it's truly wonderful here. The castle complex itself is stunning, as are the magnificent views of the Elbe and the lovely restaurant. The size of the parking lot, however, gives you an idea of what can be happening here.

Schreckenstein Castle (Hrad Srekov) is over 700 years old and boasts a varied history. It's great that the area returned to municipal ownership after the fall of communism, the Lobkowicz family, and has undergone a revival. Magnificent views from up here and a lovely (usually full) inn.
