The Schlosshotel Štekl Hluboká is very interesting and definitely worth seeing. However, the castle restaurant is run by a different operator. I found the taste quality of the food and especially its temperature to be extremely unsatisfactory. Therefore, I would rather recommend visiting one of the restaurants in the town.

Castle-like hotel complex. The rooms are okay, let's see what the wellness and food offer. It's best to book half board. The hotel price includes some free wellness features; the private sauna and massage cost extra, but it was worth it. The dinner was great, the breakfast even better. I must have put on a nice face at the bike parking space in the garage, which is actually 250 CZK, and got a discount.

A very beautiful path. I was lucky that the sun was at the right angle to the water, and it glittered beautifully. A delight.

If you don't just want to drink beer in České Budějovice but also want to get wet, you should try the whitewater canoe ride on the Vltava River! Here, the leisurely river suddenly becomes a rollercoaster of natural forces – in miniature, of course, but with maximum fun. 1. What is the whitewater canoe ride? A man-made whitewater canal directly on the Vltava River – perfect for beginners, pros, and anyone who likes to laugh and roll over. Length: Around 250 meters full of rapids, waves, and curves – short enough that you won't drown, but long enough for an adrenaline rush. Special feature: You can try kayaking or rafting here – or just watch and enjoy yourself as others land headfirst in the water. 2. The three levels of whitewater fun Level 1: Overconfidence "That looks easy!" – famous last words before the first paddle stroke. Reality: After 10 seconds, the boat turns, and you paddle backward. Stage 2: Loss of Control The rapids rock you back and forth – like a washing machine, only with more screeching. Options: Try to steer the boat (spoiler alert: never works). Just drift and hope the next rock is soft. Stage 3: Triumph or Total Defeat If it works: You proudly glide to the finish line – feeling like the king of the Vltava. If it goes wrong: You climb out of the water laughing (or cursing) – and are applauded by spectators. 3. The best (and most embarrassing) scenes on the canal The guy who loses his paddle – and then has to swim back to get it. The family in the rafting boat yelling at each other: "PADDLE LEFT! NO, LEFT!" The pros who casually surf the waves – and make everyone else jealous. 4. Practical tips for water haters Watching is also a sport: The stands offer the best entertainment – especially when someone accidentally takes a dip. Beer afterward: At the nearby Budweiser Brewery, you can dry off after the adventure. Clothing tip: Don't forget a change of clothes – unless you want to make the return trip in your underwear.
