Ænes Church was built at the end of the 12th century. It is distinguished by its short, almost square nave. Nestled between the water and the mountains, it is located in a beautiful natural setting.

The climb from Ænes to the Gygrastolen peak is clearly marked and the path is good. However you have to pass a lot of rockslabs wich can be slippery in the rain. The views up here are wonderfull though, definitely recommend!

The trail starts climbing nicely from the parking lot and gets pretty steep through the woods up onto the shoulder at about 850 m.a.s. (after the sherpa steps), further up follows a beautifully flat part until you reach the last part to the summit. We were overwhelmed by the view, from the glacier to the fjords and the mountain ranges. It‘s a six to seven hour round trip, strenuous over all.
