The old mill in Burbach's Lippe district, located on the Buchheller, originally dates back to the 15th century and was probably the first house in the village. After a varied history as a guesthouse, restaurant, and residential building, the municipality of Burbach acquired the dilapidated building in 2013. With the support of Outdooractive and through the tireless efforts of the local heritage association Heimatverein Lippe e.V., the building was largely demolished and rebuilt by autumn 2023 as a modern meeting center and excursion destination.

The Mahlscheid is a secondary peak of the Hohenseelbachkopf and lies exactly on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. The Mahlscheid and the Hohenseelbachskopf represent several large basalt cones that were formed here by volcanic activity about seven million years ago. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the basalt cone of the Mahlscheid was visible from afar. Basalt mining for road construction – carried out until the 1950s – led to the removal of the cone and created the quarry crater with the Silbersee lake that can be found today. However, basalt columns up to 40 m high are still visible in the steep walls of the crater. The Mahlscheid, the Hohenseelbachskopf, and the Druidenstein, located only about 5 km away, were presumably important Celtic cult sites. Around the 4th century BC, the area of the Mahlscheid was covered with Celtic hill forts. The Herdorf train station, a brick building on the Siegtalbahn line (Betzdorf–Haiger), lost its passenger service in 1970. Since the 19th century, it had been an important transshipment point for regional ore extraction. Numerous mines and the local Friedrichshütte steelworks were served from there, including by one of the first mine railways (built in 1862). The history of the station and the region is closely intertwined with mining. Here are the most important milestones: + 1861/1862: Construction of the Sottersbach mine railway as a horse-drawn railway (track gauge 78.5 cm) to the surrounding mines, followed in 1862 by another horse-drawn railway to the San Fernando mine. + 1901: Commissioning of two mechanical signal boxes in the station area. + 1907: Opening of the Herdorf–Unterwilden railway line, which was mainly used for transporting ore (from mines including Wolf, Bollnbach, and San Fernando) to the Friedrichshütte steelworks. + 1970: Cessation of regular passenger service on the Freien Grunder Eisenbahn line. Today, the stop serves as a station on the RB96 regional line of the Hessische Landesbahn (HLB).

Former basalt quarry, now a nature reserve. Great views, entering the shore area is not allowed. However, there are accessible viewpoints here and there. Trails around the quarry are partially overgrown in early summer, especially on the Altenseelbacher side. But you can get through by ducking.
