A very beautiful viewpoint. We used the short circular trail to acclimatize/prepare for Cerro Chirripó, as you're at a very high altitude. Due to the altitude, it can be chilly and windy; we were there in April, and a sweater was sufficient. I can definitely recommend visiting the volcano in the morning. Between 8 and 10 a.m., there are hardly any people there, and the sky is usually still clear at this time. Clouds usually move up the mountain from mid-morning onward. The view is magnificent; however, the turquoise lakes aren't visible during the dry season; they're probably only full during the rainy season. There's a small restaurant that leaves nothing to be desired; all in all, it's fantastic.

The place is very spacious, it is recommended to go in summer for good photos, completely pedalable. You can see the video "Basilica de los Angeles" on our Official Channel "BIKERS COSTA RICA" https://www.facebook.com/reel/1191863962050845

The Durán Sanatorium, an amusement park and ghost hotel, is also today a recreational park and was previously a sanatorium created to house and treat patients suffering from tuberculosis, it had all the characteristics of a first world hospital.

No matter how you drive the track, at the end you have to struggle up a mega steep "ramp". I had to push my touring bike with 4 bags for a very long time; but it was worth it.

Very windy but beautiful.

The best thing is to drive up there as early as possible to be away from the big wave of visitors. It's also much fresher up there than better to take a jacket with you ;-)

Cervantes is renowned for its unique natural features. The most iconic is The Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, where thousands of limestone pillars rise from the desert. You can also visit Lake Thetis to see ancient thrombolites, and enjoy the pristine beaches of Hangover Bay and Kangaroo Point.
While Cervantes is primarily known for its natural beauty, you can explore the Cervantes Art Trail, which features 23 pieces of art referencing the town's Spanish history and connection to the ocean. For a taste of local industry, take a tour of the Lobster Shack to learn about the Western Rock Lobster industry.
Families can enjoy a variety of activities. Exploring The Pinnacles is an adventure for all ages, with a driving trail and a walking loop. Swimming and snorkeling at Hangover Bay are popular, and the Lobster Shack offers educational tours and fresh seafood. Observing sea lions on a boat tour is also a memorable family experience.
For breathtaking views, head to Thirsty Point Lookout, which offers panoramic coastal vistas. Hansen Bay Lookout provides picturesque views of the ocean, Lake Thetis, and the Cervantes townsite. Further afield, Molah Hill Lookout offers expansive views of the Indian Ocean and Mount Lesueur.
Yes, there are several walking opportunities. At The Pinnacles, you can walk a 1.2-kilometer loop. The Thirsty Point trail offers an extended walking experience to Lake Thetis, and the 1.88 km (each way) trail between Thirsty Point and Hansen Lookout is pet-friendly and offers lovely coastal views.
Cervantes is enjoyable year-round, but for spectacular wildflower displays, the period between August and October is ideal. This is when Nambung National Park and areas around Thirsty Point come alive with vibrant blooms. The warmer months are excellent for water activities like swimming and snorkeling.
Absolutely. Nambung National Park, home to The Pinnacles, is also where you might spot emus and kangaroos. The waters around Cervantes are home to playful sea lions, and several tours offer opportunities to observe or even swim with them in their natural habitat.
Lake Thetis is one of only five sites in Western Australia where thrombolites can be found. These rock-like structures are built by microorganisms and are considered ancient 'living fossils,' dating back over 3,000 years at this site. A boardwalk allows for easy viewing of these unique formations.
Cervantes is a fantastic destination for water sports. Hangover Bay is particularly popular for swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, and fishing due to its clear turquoise waters. Kangaroo Point is also ideal for launching boats and enjoying secluded beach activities.
The Indian Ocean Drive is a scenic coastal road that connects Cervantes to other towns along Western Australia's Coral Coast. It offers stunning ocean views and provides access to various beaches, lookouts, and natural attractions, making it a beautiful route for a leisurely drive.
The Lobster Shack in Cervantes offers guided, behind-the-scenes tours of a live lobster processing plant. It's a great way to learn about the region's prominent Western Rock Lobster industry, and you can even enjoy a fresh crayfish lunch overlooking the Indian Ocean afterward.
