The history of today's parish church of St. George begins in 822 AD with the first documented mention on the occasion of the consecration of the first church, today's "Carolingian Chapel," by Abbot Eigil. The second church was built around 1220. For the new building in the late Romanesque style, the original church building was not completely demolished, but rather harmoniously incorporated into the new church. The current Baroque church was built between 1731 and 1735 under the Baroque architect Adrian(s) Gallasini and according to his plans. The "Carolingian Chapel" and the tower of the Romanesque-Gothic section with the apse were incorporated into the new building.
