In front of St. Nicholas Church in Unterbodnitz is the war memorial, originally dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. A black marble plaque with the names of the fallen was attached to the memorial. This plaque is no longer there. It was probably removed after the Second World War. However, it was preserved and is currently housed in an adjoining room of the church. The memorial itself is a rather spacious structure. It consists of a central projection, on which a cross is inscribed in bas-relief. At the base of the cross is a laurel wreath enclosing an Iron Cross in the center. Below it is the current plaque with an inscription without a name. This cross is supported by suggested rocks. The structure is enclosed by a semicircular wall. The wall has supporting posts crowned with balls. A staircase leads from the footpath to the memorial, which is lined with flower pots at the top of the entrance. http://denkmalprojekt.org/2024/unterbodnitz_saale-holzland-kreis_wk1_th.html

The magnificent hall church, with its reddish sandstone and round-arched windows, was built in 1841/42. In 1877, a steeple with a staircase in the historic style was added to the west side. The former rectory is now the winter church. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Nikolaus_(Unterbodnitz)
